Wakesurf and Chill: Our Totally Normal Obsession with Riding Waves
Let’s face it, folks…Houston, we’ve got a problem.
A delightful, adrenaline-pumping, sun-soaked problem that involves boats, boards, and a healthy obsession with the perfect wake.
[And trust, it’s not as easy as just hitting a button- wellll, maybe on those brand new Nautiques but we have through some trial and error found the sweet spot on our 2014 Malibu Wakesetter.]
Now, before you stage an intervention, hear us out. We’re not addicted… we can stop anytime we want. We just don’t want to. Ever.
Wakesurfing
Join us as we dive into the world of wakesurfing — where the only thing deeper than the water is our love for this sport. From the rush of catching that first wave to the thrill cruising behind the boat, we’ll explore why wakesurfing has us hooked, line, and sinker.
So grab your life jacket and sense of humor, because we’re about to get mildly (okay, majorly) obsessed with all things wakesurfing!
“The best surfer out there is the one having the most fun.”
Ronix Koal Classic- first board I rode after spiral fracture of tibia and fibula.
Board Brilliance: Ronix Koal Classic
Ronix Koal Classic: These board bosses have been making waves (yeah, I said it) in the wakesurfing world, and it’s not just because they look pretty.
Ronix boards are the total package:
Indestructible: Because we all eat wake sometimes, and these boards can take a licking and keep on kicking
Performance Powerhouses: They’ll have you going from zero to hero faster than you can say “hold my beverage” (Pro tip: Ditch two of the four fins and watch the magic happen)
Style for Miles: Because if you’re gonna faceplant, you might as well look fabulous doing it
From wake newbies to superstars, Ronix has a board that’ll make you feel like the Austin Keen of wakesurfing. Don’t just take my word for it — let me spill the tea on my own Ronix revelation.
Picture this: It’s July 2023, and I’m fresh off a gnarly tib/fib break from a snowboarding mishap back in January. Talk about a comeback story!
There I am at Lake Tahoe, at this swanky Homewood event called “Surf Across Tahoe”, and here is a Ronix rep with who lends me a Ronix Koal Classic…First time behind the boat, and BAM! I’m up and riding like I was born with a wake beneath my feet…
Please excuse the flabby legs and pulling on the rope like that! Sheesh. (I was so excited!) Photo by author’s husband
Let me tell you, that Ronix Koal Classic stole my heart faster than a pro surfer catches a wave. It’s not just a board; it’s a life-changer on water.
Mark my words: my next board? It’s gonna be a Ronix, no question.
It unexpectedly gave me the confidence to continue riding all through the next summer. They’ve earned a VIP spot in my heart forever.
Wakesurfing: Where Fun Meets Fitness
Here’s a little secret: wakesurfing is actually a workout in disguise. But shhh, don’t tell anyone — it’s too much fun to feel like exercise!
Core strength: Balancing on the board is like a secret core workout… I thank my yoga instructor, Nicole, on the daily for this preparation.
Leg power: Carving through waves will give you legs of steel- I wish I could have a cloned leg and switch it out… Ya feel me?
Full-body workout: From your arms to your toes, everything gets in on the action- it works every muscle and (micro) muscle of your body!
Mental fitness: The focus required for wakesurfing is like yoga, but way more exciting. I personally find that I get into such a flow state, I am not even sure what I just did-I just know it’s exhilarating! (Having a friend film, or a GoPro we will invest in next year is paramount.)
So, next time someone asks about your fitness routine, just wink and say, “I surf behind boats.” It’s guaranteed to spark some interesting conversations… ha.

Let’s Make Some Waves!
Wakesurfing isn’t just a sport — it’s a lifestyle, a passion, and quite possibly the most fun you can have on water without growing gills (I mean, questionable: ever seen Waterworld?)
Curtain call here in magical Lake Tahoe is October 13th and the weather has been cooperating… The obsession may have to take a pause but it’s not to say we won’t be using our balance boards on the carpet at home and watching YouTube videos until open season next Spring here in enchanting Lake Tahoe.
