Stop Waiting & Start Creating: Your Roadmap to Fearless Self-Promotion
Let’s be honest, putting yourself out there feels about as comfortable as wearing wet socks. We’ve all had those moments where we’d rather hide under our desks than post on socials. But here’s the thing: your brilliant ideas deserve better than collecting dust in your brain’s backup folder.

1. Embrace Your Inner Peacock (Yes, Really)
Remember that time you gave perfect directions to a tourist and felt like the mayor of your town? (I do alll the time in my little town of South Lake Tahoe.) Channel that same unshakeable confidence now…
The truth is, we’re all worried about looking silly, but here’s a mind-blowing revelation: everyone else is too busy worrying about themselves to notice your occasional awkward self-promotion. Let the awkward be felt!
Your Instagram story about your latest project isn’t going to cause the apocalypse, I promise. Start small: Share one achievement today while immediately following it with a “it’s not that big of a deal” mindset.
Everyone has had to start somewhere. Isn’t it great when you hear a famous person’s back story and how many times they failed or were rejected?
Yes, THIS.
2. Turn Your Inner Critic into Your Hype Person
You know that voice in your head that says “who do you think you are?” Don’t let it hold space rent free in your head. Better yet, give it a new script.
Instead of “nobody cares about my work,” try “my perspective might be exactly what someone needs today.” Yes, it feels cheesy at first — like wearing a suit for the first time. But just like that suit, you’ll grow into it. Your expertise is valuable, even if your imposter syndrome is throwing a tantrum about it.
3. Fail Forward (With Style)
Here’s a fun fact: every successful person you admire has a blooper reel that would make your cringe for days... That pitch that got rejected? That presentation where you forgot your own name? They’re not failures — they’re your origin story.
Each stumble is just your ego doing mandatory cardio. The key is to fail forward, learn fast, and maybe develop a low key habit of trying new things.

4. Build Your Cheerleading Squad
Remember how much cooler everything felt when you had your best friend backing you up in school? That principle hasn’t expired. Find your people…the ones who’ll hype you up when you’re doubting yourself and give you honest feedback when you need it.
Join professional groups, connect with peers, slide into relevant LinkedIn DMs (professionally, of course). Just don’t forget to be a cheerleader for others too — karma loves a good networking strategy.
5. Make Tenacity Your Superpower
Let’s talk about tenacity…that stubborn little spark that refuses to die even when things get tough. As a cute bouncy ball example: The harder life throws you down, the higher you bounce back.
Did someone unsubscribe from your newsletter? Cool, now you have more room for your ideal audience. Did your social media post flop? Fantastic, you just learned what doesn’t work. The secret isn’t in never falling…it’s in making getting back up your signature move.
The truth is, marketing yourself isn’t just about growing your business — it’s about growing into yourself. Every time you put yourself out there, you’re not just building your brand; you’re building your backbone. And yes, some people might roll their eyes at your success posts or think you’re “doing too much.”
{Cliches are there for a reason so I will not hide behind my screen with chagrin as this works as good of time as any for this blog:}
But remember: those who matter don’t mind, and those who mind don’t matter.
So go ahead, take up space. Make some noise. Share your wins (and your authentic failures). The world needs what you’ve got, even if your ego is currently hiding under the bed, refusing to come out. Because at the end of the day, the biggest risk isn’t in putting yourself out there — it’s in keeping yourself hidden.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go practice what I preach and post about this blog without apologizing for its existence. Who’s with me?
. . .
Questions? Comments? Suggestions?
Have you had some epic fails? I can attest to some serious posting flops… amongst…ahem… many others. Although I know lessons learned and failing forward is the key to growth and ultimately success. What are your thoughts?
