Dave Grohl: Is he really that cool?
The answer is: A most resounding YES!!!
Dave Grohl is just cool, right? Like only having to be-himself-cool…
We all knew him as the drummer of Nirvana that kicked off the grunge era in the 90’s …the untimely death of Kurt Cobain in 1994 was tragic and a shock to us all.
While obviously taking a pause, and regrouping, Dave Grohl soldiered on. Creating the apropos one-man project (at the time) Foo Fighters in 1995.
He sings, plays the guitar, drums, bass, and has even appeared behind the camera. He has received 16 Grammy Awards, has created soundtracks for blockbuster movies, toured around the world, collaborated with the most extraordinary acts, appeared on the cover of glossy magazines, made movies and documentaries, hosted live T.V. shows, and so much more.
Whew! With all this under his belt, where does he get all this energy?
Don’t be jealous. I got to see him in action.
I was blessed to see this incredible soul here in Lake Tahoe at the Harvey’s outdoor amphitheater. I already knew the above about him… but, seeing him LIVE is a whole other story. People who had seen him prior just gave a head nod like “wait til’ you see.”
I’m like, he’s 54, he’s a rocker and been one since dropping out of high school to go play… how much energy could this guy have?
The answer: A LOT. He has a TON of energy.
I was shocked… Not only does he and his band ROCK, he’s up and down the stage, dumping water on his head, head banging, making jokes, chatting it up, smoking a cig, head banging some more… pushing the Lake Tahoe curfew (there is a sound ordinance) to the last minute…even getting his power shut off like any self respecting rocker would do.
Not to mention the talent of the band as a whole… They mashed up Led Zeppelin, Nine Inch Nails, Devo, the Beatles, Metallica & the Beastie Boys, with I am sure many others along with their perfectly crafted set list of eleven studio albums.
So, he’s a Superstar. We know that. But what else?
His chosen brand of footwear? VANS.

Not only does Dave Grohl care about an excellent pair of kicks that has been around for 50+ years (maybe as old as him,) but he also is just an all around good dude:
He believes in equality of love and marriage. He has been an advocate since the 1990’s.
He truly cares about people: tipping huge, cooking for firefighters, writing notes to trapped miners, stopping fights at his own shows… An all around good lad. Like soul-depth kinda good.
His sense of humor can’t be beat… it’s evident in his shows, interviews and music videos. Please note: sound ordinance in Lake Tahoe. Oh, he knew and kept razzing the sound guys… “We have too many songs!”
Don’t be fooled though.
He is still very much human. Dave Grohl knows how to treasure the silver lining of a dark cloud and continues to put one Vans-clad foot in front of the other…
AND…Clearly has an AWESOME time doing it…
