“We Need To Talk…”
Those 4 little scary words →
My husband came home after work on a Monday last year in July and said:
“We need to talk.”
We both don’t use this kind of language and are very open about feelings and the various scenarios in our lives…
As I paused and he added a silent semi colon to the conversation, he finished with…
“We are buying a boat.”
“Ummm. No we are not.”
“Yes, we are. We are going to Salt Lake City on Thursday.”
“Well, I’m not.”
“Ok, well, I’ll go without you.”
He. Was. Serious.
And this was something we had talked about… But, I had just started my copywriting business and I felt uncomfortable without the second steady income.
A friend laughed, “When is it ever a really good time to buy a boat?”
After the initial shock and as he showed me photos… It really was the perfect boat for us. A 2014 Malibu Wakesetter.

Buying a Boat
It was 10 years old (2014) but it-was-immaculate. Kept in mint condition, was a gorgeous blue and white and had only 350 hours on it (which needs to be noted: with the battery on while just lounging and floating about anchored in, the hours still tick.)
And it was the right price and he felt like we could afford it.
Why buy a boat?
First, we live a mile from Lake Tahoe. Second, our close friends got a jet boat 6 years ago and we really enjoyed being out with them, and we all enjoyed surfing behind it.
Unfortunately, this particular boat did not have the ballasts or surf gate to produce a wave. Fun, nonetheless, but it got Clint to thinking…
He had owned a boat years ago and there is something about the boat lifestyle that has always remained with him.
And this one we could WAKESURF with.
{And don’t worry, I did go to Salt Lake City with him to pick it up.}
Wakesurfing
Once you experience the thrill of wakesurfing, be ready to find yourself planning your weekends around it. It’s not just a sport; it’s a lifestyle that brings together friends, family, and nature in a uniquely awesome way.

Picture this: You’re gliding effortlessly across the water, riding a perpetual wave created by a boat ahead of you. Think ocean surfers: They could spend hours waiting for a wave, and that is IF they catch it. This wave goes as long as you do!
What Makes Wakesurfing Awesome?
1. Accessibility
Unlike traditional surfing, you don’t need to wait for the perfect swell or battle, well, the ocean. With wakesurfing, you can create your own waves anytime, anywhere there’s a suitable body of water.
2. Low Impact, High Thrill
Wakesurfing is easier on your body compared to wakeboarding or water skiing. The slower speeds and lack of bindings mean less stress on your joints, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

3. Social Sport
Wakesurfing is perfect for group outings. Take turns riding while your friends cheer you on from the boat. It’s a great way to bond and create lasting memories on the water.
{I had to get over the embarrassment of crashing and burning the first 20 or so times haha but now I am elated when I hear the hoots and hollers from the boat!}
4. Versatility
Whether you’re a beginner learning to stand up or an expert pulling off aerial tricks, wakesurfing offers endless possibilities for progression and creativity.
5. Connection with Nature
There’s something magical about being on the water, feeling the breeze, and soaking in the surrounding scenery. Wakesurfing allows you to immerse yourself in nature while enjoying an adrenaline rush.
Getting Started
Ready to catch your first wake? Here’s what you need:
A wakesurfing-specific boat (or a friend’s! Even better…)
A wakesurf board
A life jacket
A willing boat driver and spotter
With some basic instruction and practice, you’ll be up and surfing in no time…
{Having watched a YouTube or 50 we have found a way to get people comfortable with how the process is going to go even before the boat starts.}
So, what are you waiting for? Grab a board, hop on a boat, and discover why wakesurfing is making waves in the world of water sports.
Trust us, you will figure out how to make the payments… (wink.)
