Birkenstocks or Barbieland?
You have two choices…
The Barbie movie & Birkenstock sandals: Do opposites attract?
It’s amazing how pop culture can dictate what we like, who we like, and how we like. A plastic doll (Barbie, if you’ve been under a rock, wink.wink.) inspired a whole blockbuster movie which has reached more than $1 billion globally.
The interesting part? There are two scenes with a Birkenstock sandal in them that has caused Google searches to go up 300% because of this whimsical yet sophisticated movie.
In the film, the main character, Barbie (Margot Robbie) encounters some troubles with her “perfect Barbie-ness” and “Weird” Barbie (Kate McKinnon) presents two options to Barbie:

She has to choose between staying in the perfect world of Barbieland, which is represented by a pair of sparkly high-heeled pink pumps. OR… Pick the dark brown 2 strap-over leather Birkenstock sandals, which represent the real world to help Barbie through her “existential crisis.” (Quotation marks definitely on purpose…But.. as the story evolves, you will be enlightened with how layered the storyline actually is.)
“You can know the truth about the universe,” says Weird Barbie with the Birkenstocks in her hand.
I mean… who can pass this offer up? Birkenstocks please!
There are polarizing views of this movie because it is acutely feminist while portraying the male characters in a very satirical light. But the main takeaway is for women to find their truth… Wherever & whatever that may be.
And…in a pretty in pink pair of Birkenstocks that Barbie is wearing at the close of this movie…
Freedom & Truth with Birkenstock?
Bottom line? The Birkenstocks in the movie, represented freedom and choice and truth. Now a sandal that has never truly been in fashion or out of fashion since the 70’s is now reportedly set to go public in September because of the Barbie movie’s success via an initial public offering (IPO) potentially valuing the company at $8 Billion.
. . .
So… my question is: What if your footwear brand needs a little “Birkenstock” pop? The right messaging to assist your conversion rates? Maybe your marketing and sales are not in Barbieland but are in a place that could use a little work?
Conversational is the new professional & making that human connection is thirsted for now, more than ever…
So, maybe you don’t know if you want Birkenstocks or Barbieland… maybe you could use some guidance… maybe you could use a (dare I?) Weird Barbie (haha) and need someone to voice all these feelings and energies in word format… assist with brand-messaging, helping your individuality shine, while maintaining your soul led values.
Why don’t we have ourselves a chat?
On the call, we will look at what’s working and what’s not working. We will discuss the best course of action so you can move forward with ease and comfort (you know, basically the copywriting equivalent to wearing your very own Birkenstocks.) And then… if there’s a possibility to work together then we will make some time to chat about that as well.
Don’t worry… no risk of turning Weird Barbie…
or staying in Barbieland.
Unless of course… that is the desired goal ;)
