Just like riding a bike…

Just like riding a bike. I feel we use this familiar phrase for many things but I experienced this very phenomenon today. I broke my leg 4 months ago snowboarding and during one of the greatest winters I had ever experienced in my 20+ years of living here, the thought of even walking in the snow was a difficult action to even fathom.

Riding out to the beach, on the street and bike trails, there were still berms of snow intact, taking residence in the shade, but the lake was gorgeous and besides fallen trees and a whole mess of pine cones, the beach was clear.

My physical therapist specializes in neuro-therapy for stroke patients, and brain injuries. When I told her my next goal was to take a bike ride down to the Beacon, (this was in 2023 it is now called “The Grove”) which is a several mile ride from the house, she was flabbergasted when I told her I ride without a helmet.

My snowboarding injury was merely an accident, and I was in fact wearing a helmet, however, this made me think of all the outdoor activities I embark on and how I could up my safety game.  So, Clint and I went shopping!

Wanting to shop locally, we went to Shoreline sports, and although finding this Smith helmet didn’t fit my gargantuan cranium, we were able to order online.

It fits perfectly with a boa like mechanism on the back, and the air flow and brim makes for a comfortable experience for this sweaty head of mine. It was just like a baseball cap I could grab out of the closet, but exhibited all the safety features that just don’t do the job a cap could possibly do.

I don’t ever leave home without my DIFF sunglasses, where each pair purchased means better sight for someone in need. Not only are they polarized helping the much thinner atmosphere at 6,282 feet, but knowing 3 million people have received eye care from DIFF’s Gift of Sight program adds so much more to these perfect outdoorsy sunnies. The quality is that much deeper aside from being styley, while being the perfect function for all my outdoor activities.

On the way back from a beautiful lakeside lunch, a friend got bugs in her mouth and eyes. I suggested perhaps DIFF could make a difference in more ways than one…
