My friend Jake spent $3,000 on a brand photoshoot.
Professional photographer. Perfect lighting. Carefully curated props that screamed “outdoor adventure guide.” Every image looked like it belonged in an REI catalog.

Then one rainy Tuesday, he posted a photo from his phone. It was blurry. His jacket was ripped. And the caption told the story of getting completely lost on what was supposed to be a simple trail reconnaissance, finding himself under a rock ledge sheltering from an unexpected lightning storm, and realizing that getting lost sometimes leads to the best discoveries.

The vulnerability in your origin story is what makes people lean in. Perfect is forgettable. Real is magnetic.

Before: Paint the picture of where they started. Not just “wanted to lose weight” but “couldn’t tie her shoes without getting winded, avoided mirrors, made excuses to skip her daughter’s recital.”
During: Show the work, the setbacks, the small wins. “The first week, she cried in my office. The third week, she sent me a photo of herself walking around the block.”
After: This isn’t just the result — it’s the ripple effect. “She not only lost 40 pounds, she signed up to run a 5K with her daughter. She told me the best part wasn’t the scale — it was her husband saying ‘I haven’t seen you smile like this in years.’”
